The Munchkin is a naturally occurring domestic cat breed characterized by short legs. A spontaneous
change in the genetic heritage of the cat has introduced a gene similar to that seen in the Dachshund, which the Munchkin
resembles. Munchkins exhibit shortening and mild bowing of the long bones. The spine is NOT affected and similar in form and
flexibility to that seen in other domestic cats. The short legs do not hamper mobility.
Although the Munchkin is amusing to watch and the body resembles a ferret more than a cat, the
personality is all cat. The munchkin can be very social and enjoys company.
They get along with other cats, dogs and people, Despite the short legs, the Munchkin is not
shortchanged in any way other than stature, and most make up for that in personality!.
One charactoristic that is generally mentioned by breeders is the tendancy for "Munchkins" to
stay "Young at heart" they always seam to have a bit of kitten left in them!
